Well autumn is officially here in the northern hemisphere. The markets are overflowing with the bountiful autumn harvest and this season is about repairing your skin and preparing it for the cooler days ahead. This time of year is ideal for comforting soups and hearty stews using fresh wholesome foods from the local markets.
Some of my favourite autumn skin foods are:
Pumpkin: This icon of autumn in North America is packed with fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids which rejuvenate cell production to smooth and brighten the skin. It's vitamin A and C are powerful antioxidants supplying much needed protection from the Sun.
Carrots: High in beta-carotene which the body transforms into vitamin A for a natural healthy glow. The beta-carotene along with its vitamin C content can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Other suggestions for preparing your skin for the cooler and drier month ahead.
Don't forgot the sunscreen. UV rays although not as strong as in the summer can still damage your skin in the cooler months.
It's time to get rid if the dead skin cells that have built up over the summer months. Many of us have dull and dehydrated skin after the summer so now is a great time to exfoliate, stimulate and reveal new and healthy skin cells. A great body exfoliant and what I like to use is an oil based scrub as it will exfoliate and hydrate at the same time. I like to keep it simple so this is a great 2 in 1. I don't suggest using an oil based scrub on your skin though they tend to be to harsh and have to much oil for the face.
